Key takeaway
You don't need a separate "Portfolio" product to get portfolio level visibility, a Program you already control already gives you that, built around the specific projects you run together.
"Portfolio view" gets used by a lot of PM tools without much definition behind it, sometimes it means a real cross project rollup, sometimes it just means a list of project names on one page. Stripped of the marketing, what people actually mean when they ask for it is simple: one look across everything I'm accountable for, without opening each one individually to find out how it's doing.
What already gets you there
In ClearPMO, that view is a Program, not a separately named or separately built "Portfolio" feature. A Program Manager groups the specific projects they run together into a Program, and its dashboard, risk heat map and owner accountability view are exactly that portfolio level picture: every linked project's health, risk and dependency count in one place, sorted worst first. Nothing about it is scoped down or a lighter preview of some bigger portfolio product waiting to be built, it's the real thing, built around whichever projects you choose to group, not every project in the account by default.
That matters more than it sounds like it should. A genuine portfolio view has to be selective, the Head of PMO watching six client engagements and the Program Manager watching three phases of one delivery are not looking for the same rollup. Building it as "attach the projects you actually want visibility across" rather than "everything, automatically" is what makes the view usable instead of just noisy.
What it actually costs
The honest version, since this is exactly the kind of thing worth checking before committing to a tool: ClearPMO is priced in three independent layers, and none of them require each other. Every project starts on a free Base plan, forever, no card required, scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, tasks, team roster and an audit trail. A project can be upgraded individually to unlock AI assisted drafting, document import, bulk task import and daily reminder emails, CHF 69 a month or CHF 690 a year, per project, not per account.
Program Management is its own separate plan on top of that, CHF 149 a month or CHF 1490 a year, per program, billed independently of what any linked project pays. Linking a project to a program never upgrades that project, and upgrading a program never upgrades a project linked to it, each side pays for its own separate thing. A Program can be created and used, its own milestones and risks entered, on the free tier, only the cross project dashboard, heat map, owner view and the rolled up digest actually require the paid upgrade.
The honest caveat
This is a lean tool for someone running a handful of projects or a small program, not an enterprise portfolio suite with capacity planning across two hundred people. If that's genuinely what you need, this isn't the right fit. If what you need is one honest view across the specific projects you're actually accountable for, without paying for a portfolio tier you don't use the rest of, a Program already gets you there.
